Feb. 6—For 65 minutes on Wednesday evening, the Lodi High girls soccer team played St. Mary's to a scoreless tie.

But St. Mary's made the most of one of their few chances, and the result was a 1-0 shutout win over the Flames. The Rams maintained their lead atop the Tri-City Athletic League at 7-1-1, and 11-2-1 overall, while Lodi stayed in fourth place in league play at 4-5, and 7-8-3 overall.

The win clinched the league title for St. Mary's, with Lincoln and Tracy both sitting at 5-2-2.

The two teams went into halftime in a scoreless tie, despite Lodi giving St. Mary's a big chance early on. A defender passed back to goalkeeper Madilyn Ehlers, who picked it up in a moment of absent-mindedness. But the resulting indirect free kick, which resulted in a shot from just a few yards out, deflected off a defender to safety.

St. Mary's outshot Lodi 6-1 in the first half, with four saves from Ehlers.

Much like the first half, the second half was played mostly in the midfield, with aggressive defenses preventing many deep runs.

But in the 65th minute, St. Mary's turned a counterattack into a strike, which Ehlers blocked, but the Rams were there to put away the ricochet.

Lodi threatened a minute later, with a through pass leading to a one-on-one opportunity for Kamdyn Schiess, but her shot was blocked.

Lodi had two corner kick opportunities in the waning minutes, with one deflected out of bounds, and the other cleared away.

The JV game also finished in a 1-0 victory for St. Mary's.

Lodi will finish the regular season at Tracy today.
